Earning My NCCU "Eagle Wings"

The life of an eagle at the illustrious North Carolina Central University is amazing. I wrote an earlier post about Morehouse and how that was my top choice school, but now that I have walked the campus of NCCU I'm happy I made Central my new home. The school motto aligns with mine: Truth and Services. Giving back to the community that will always be there for you in your time of need and getting more people to where you are or if possible further. I'm not sure about other HBCUs or even WPIs but at Central, we represent our area codes hard. So I think it's only right for me to talk about my community in the 2-5.
Working in the public eye as a cashier at Food Lion, I see a lot of different people every day. But, there are some people that recognize me from the newspaper and they are congratulating me constantly for all of my accomplishments. Seeing the smiles on their face is moving. I've made my community proud and I'm sure they will be even more proud when they learn that in four years I will be getting a degree in Political Science and History and shortly after that I will be getting a Juris Doctor. I don't have to be a rapper or athlete for the 2-5 to be proud. I feel like I am living proof that there are going to be a lot of downfalls in life, but you gotta find something that motivates you to keep going. The quote by Arthur Ashe "Success is a Journey, Not a Destination" is truly a favorite.
While on campus I learned to be Personable, Punctual, Open-minded, Honest, and Respectful. We are a huge family at North Carolina Central and I would never have thought in a million years that someone like me from the 252 would make it this far, but I did. And guess what I EARNED MY WINGS and will be SOARING HIGH with my fellow Eagles.
